TheBus

Prince George's County provides TheBus, a County bus service meeting local transportation needs by providing 27 routes, covering over 10,000 miles. TheBus operates Monday through Friday, five days a week; however, no service is provided on major holiday's (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day).

  • The base fare is currently $1.25
  • Seniors (60+) and persons with disabilities and Medicare card holders with a valid photo ID ride TheBus FREE-of-charge during normal operational hours from 6 AM – 7 PM, Monday - Friday. In addition, persons with disabilities with a MetroAccess ID may bring one personal companion with them on board TheBus at no charge
  • “Kids Ride Free” on TheBus is available to students after school dismissal on regularly scheduled school days, Monday – Friday (holidays and vacations excluded), from 2:00 – 7:00 PM. Students must present proper identification to the bus driver to be eligible to ride free during the hours of operation.

 

TheBus is currently connected with NextBus a service that uses satellite technology and advanced computer modeling to track vehicles on their routes. NextBus can estimate vehicle arrivals with a high degree of accuracy. The Bus accepts SmarTrip© cards (permanent, rechargeable farecards) Similar to credit cards, plastic SmarTrip cards are embedded with a computer chip that keeps track of the value of the card.
