Carpooling

Carpooling is the simplest and most common "ridesharing" arrangement. Finding someone to carpool is easy because employees of a single company often live near each other. Neighbors may work at different companies located only a short distance apart and have the same work hours.

With the impending WMATA SafeTrack plan for our location here in Prince George's County we have streamlined the process for Carpooling.

RIDEMATCHING PROCESS: There are two ways you can Register for the Carpooling database

1. Online Signup - Go to this CommunterConnections Link. Make an account and followup the steps provided to get your match!

2. Over the Phone - If you do not have access to a computer or have any questions related please call 1-800-745-RIDE (7433) to get setup. This includes information about the GRH program.

* As an incentive, commuters who currently drive alone to work may be eligible for a cash payment through 'Pool Rewards when they start or join a new carpool! If eligible, each carpool member can earn $2 per day ($1 each way) for each day they carpool to work over a consecutive 90-day period. The maximum incentive for the 90-day trial period is $130. Carpools may consist of two or more people.

Ridematching, a free service provided by RideSmart, makes carpooling easy by matching commuters based on their geographic and scheduling needs. Ridesharing is a great way to lower commuting costs, reduce congestion, and decrease parking demand. You will also conserve energy, improve air quality and possibly meet new people.

We all know unexpected emergencies can arise when carpooling and that is where the Guaranteed Ride Home (otherwise known as GRH) Program will help alleviate the stress resulting from these emergencies. Commuters who regularly (twice a week) carpool, vanpool, bike, walk or take transit to work, are provided with a FREE and reliable ride home when in need up to 4 times a year.
